June 2011 Denton, Maryland - Tanglewood Conservatories
has received a "Better With Less" award from Maryland Comptroller, Mr. Peter Franchot. One
company from each county in Maryland has been picked to receive the newly created award that
recognizes businesses across the state for thriving during these trying economic times.
Comptroller Franchot's office created the "Better With Less" program to recognize
organizations that have been successful while using fewer resources, used or created new ways to
operate more efficiently, found specialized and profitable new niche markets, or helped their local
communities with new economic opportunities. Nominations were accepted from each of the 23 Maryland
counties and Baltimore City through April 1.
Mr. Franchot plans to personally present all 24 awards to each business. "I look
forward to highlighting Maryland's best and brightest companies," said Comptroller Franchot.
Tanglewood Conservatories was uniquely qualified for the "Better With Less" award
because if the product they are looking for isn't available, they will build it. This includes
making windows and doors, as well as glass. Each glasshouse is completely pre-built in their shop,
then disassembled and shipped to its destination. If there is not a local Tanglewood representative
and installation team located in the destination area, an installation team from the production
facility travels with the project to complete the project onsite.
Alan Stein and Nancy Virts founded Tanglewood Conservatories in 1993 with the
intention of designing and building conservatories and greenhouses for residential and commercial
use. Employing up to 30 employees (designers, draftsmen, office and production personnel), Tanglewood
occupies 40,000 square feet in an industrial park in Denton, Maryland. |
