September 2011 Denton, Maryland - Tanglewood Conservatories will preserve
history by helping to sponsor an event in October to benefit the
Preservation
Maryland organization. A beautiful 21' x 13' Georgian-style conservatory, previously
donated by a Tanglewood client to the Historical Society of Caroline County, will be
auctioned as part of the event to raise funds for Preservation Maryland. Founded in
1931 as the Society for the Preservation of Maryland Antiquities, the organization
is dedicated to preserving Maryland's historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes,
and archaeological sites through outreach, funding and advocacy.
The October 9th event will be held from 4pm to 7pm at the
Wye House Farm, a National Historic Landmark in Talbot County, MD. Tours of the property will
be offered during the event. Participants will be treated to traditional local fare
and libations while enjoying a photographic exhibit of the area's 365 National
Register properties and meeting their owners.
The event's silent auction, representing the best of each
Maryland county, will feature a Tanglewood conservatory as one of the items
up for bid. The conservatory was originally destined for San Francisco, to
provide breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the owners' home
overlooking the Presidio. A job-related move for the owners interrupted the
project, and Tanglewood Conservatories arranged for the unfinished
conservatory to be donated.
"Our conservatory designs pay homage to the centuries old
structures around the world that are our heritage. It's a wonderful feeling
to have one of our own conservatories being used to help preserve another
precious piece of history," says Alan Stein, President and Director of
Architecture at Tanglewood Conservatories.
Alan Stein and Nancy Virts founded Tanglewood Conservatories
in 1993 to design and build handcrafted custom conservatories and greenhouses
for residential and commercial use. Employing up to 30 employees (designers,
draftsmen, office, and production personnel), Tanglewood's workshop is located
in Denton, Maryland. |
