From the beginning, greenhouses and conservatories have blurred the very lines they’ve drawn. They extend a home into nature while keeping that selfsame nature at bay, delivering all the beauty of the outdoors and all the comforts of home.

Glass House

T his distinctive conservatory design features a central octagonal gallery seamlessly integrated with single-slope roofs on either side.

The large rooms overall effect is a well-proportioned whole that artfully complements the house. The quarry tile floor and deep green interior lend depth of tone to the room and are contrasted by the pale wooden table and bright red blossoms - just right for some peaceful afternoon reading and a glass of wine.

Architecturally, the central gallery is the dominant element of the design yet it does not overpower the two smaller "wings" to either side which help to soften it and blend the conservatory back into the house.

Floor-to-ceiling arch-top windows match those of the original house and, from the interior, provide an unobstructed view of the natural theater outside. Sun shines through the mature oaks and dances across the floor. An antique style ceiling fan turns lazily above.

Some twenty foot of the back wall of the existing house was removed to open the newly remodeled kitchen to the new conser- vatory allowing the two rooms to function as one separated only by an island with tall stools. Prep work in here is now a delight.

The formerly dark, confining kitchen has now become a soaring

cathedral of light - and the most used space in the home. People gather, plants bloom and the outdoors flows into the house. From their new kitchen table, the owners are enveloped in nature.

The brick knee wall continues the house out and around the conservatory and forms a base on which the conservatory can comfortably sit. Doors at the side of the conservatory open to a small patio enclosed on the two other sides by the brickwork of the house.
